First Seminar Series by Young Environmental Experts at C.I.R.AM

Cultivating Talent: At C.I.R.AM., Space for Young Environmental Leaders  From April 20 to June 19, 2026, C.I.R.AM. is promoting its first cycle of seminars dedicated to the environment—an initiative that places the growth of the new generation of researchers at its core, while fostering interdisciplinary dialogue on sustainability issues. Organized in a blended format (Teams channel: dtfselx), the seminar series represents an important opportunity for discussion on today’s major environmental challenges. The program, organized by the Director of C.I.R.AM., Giulia Guerriero, together with board members Luigi Rosati and Filomena Sannino, is structured into three thematic sessions—One Health, Water, and Soil—reflecting an integrated approach to environmental studies that connects human health, ecosystems, and the sustainable management of resources.

From water quality to emerging contaminants, from climate change to soil protection, the seminars will provide an up-to-date overview of the latest research directions and potential innovative solutions. A distinctive feature of the initiative is the central role given to young experts, who will have the opportunity to present their work alongside leading academic and institutional speakers.

Topics covered will range from the use of sustainable biomaterials to environmental biomonitoring, as well as climate change adaptation strategies and water treatment technologies, offering a concrete contribution to research and innovation. The series will conclude on June 19 with a final ceremony, during which certificates of participation will be awarded by the Director of C.I.R.AM., Prof. Giulia Guerriero, and the Deputy Director, Prof. Massimo Fagnano. The C.I.R.AM.

Award will also be presented to the most outstanding contribution, selected by a jury composed of board members Filomena Sannino, Armando Zarrelli, and Fiore Capozzi.

With this initiative, C.I.R.AM. reaffirms its commitment to supporting and promoting emerging talent, fostering a dynamic and open research environment capable of generating knowledge and innovation for a more sustainable future.

Agenda

The key takeaway is clear: “Our habits and the way we interact with the environment today shape the world of tomorrow.”

Session of April 20

The One Health session of the “First Cycle of Seminars of Young Environmental Experts at C.I.R.AM.” was opened by three experts: Dr. Carlo Jacomini (ISPRA), Prof. Marco Trifuoggi (University of Naples Federico II), and Dr. David Mariani (Healthy Habits). Through three video presentations, it provided valuable insights into understanding the deep connection between the environment, information, and health.

Carlo Jacomini - ISPRA

Let’s keep our feet on the ground: the role of soil in One Health

The first video within this perspective by highlighting the central role of science and research in understanding complex phenomena, emphasizing the importance of an interdisciplinary approach involving ecology, biology, and medicine.

Marco Trifuoggi - UNINA

Emerging contaminants in water, food and environment

The second video examines the presence of emerging contaminants in water, soil, and food, clearly showing how environmental pollution can directly impact human health and ecosystem balance.

David Mariani - Healthy Habits

One health and healthy habits: two sides of the same coin

The third video broadens the discussion by highlighting the importance of scientific communication and public awareness of the value of the environment: without accurate information, even the strongest evidence may fail to translate into effective action.
